A cyst. What does that bring to mind?
For some Toronto back pain sufferers, it would be a hint
to the basis of their pain. But the diagnosis of a
synovial cyst as the culprit causing pain is an
intriguing one. Back pain and leg pain may stem from a
synovial cyst which is where Toronto chiropractic care at
Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre comes in to help. Toronto
chiropractic care with the Cox® Technic is shown to help decrease
back pain and related leg pain because of a synovial cyst without
Toronto back surgery.
SYNOVIAL CYST FACTS
First, let us discuss what
synovial cysts are. Synovial cysts are uncommon lesions associated
with facet degeneration and commonly found in the lumbar spine at
L4-S1. (1) 33% to 40% of synovial cysts are linked
with degenerative spondylolisthesis and instability of the affected
joint. (2,3) Synovial cysts may cause sciatica/leg pain.
(4) Synovial cysts appear in females mostly in their sixth
decade of life, resulting in radicular pain
and neurological deficits. These cysts are generally
seen at L4-5 which is also the site of maximum mobility in the lumbar spine.
MRI is the diagnostic tool of choice as it shows
the consistency of the cyst (more or less fluid). (5) When
synovial cysts look lighter on MRI T2 images, they are probably
more fluid filled and less likely gelatinous or calcified, making
them possibly easier to ease. (6) Synovial cysts
have been reported to disappear especially
if the cyst wall is not calcified. (7) Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre works to help
Toronto back pain sufferers dealing with synovial cyst get rid of
them, too.
SYNOVIAL CYST CAUSES
Wilby et al describe a channel that joins
the facet joint capsule with the ligamentum flavum, the area where the synovial
cysts ermerge. At surgery for these cysts,
they discovered that fragments of articular cartilage and bone were
in the walls of the channels in 89% of the cysts. This debris jams and
prevents the channel from draining and triggers granulation
tissue and scar formation probably starting
synovial cyst formation. (8) Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre works on scar tissue to
enhance the spine’s fluidity.
SYNOVIAL CYST TREATMENT
Conservative treatment of lumbar spine synovial cysts is suggested
as some tend to vanish without surgery. (9)
Conservative treatment is practical. If the cyst doesn’t respond, then surgery is an option. (5) Cox® Technic has a reputation
of conservative care relief for synovial cysts. (10) As implemented
at Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre, Cox® Technic was effective at relief when
an epidural steroid injection didn’t. (11) In another case, a 75
year old man with back and leg pain and a synovial cyst treated for 3 months/16
visits felt 80% relief. (12) Cox® Technic at Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre
is relieving for numerous Toronto back pain sufferers
with synovial cysts.
