WHO SMOKES?
Researchers are inquisitive about factors
linked to smoking. In a review of 7547 patients who underwent back surgery, they found
that 18% were smokers. The researchers stated that contrasted
with the non-smokers, the smokers were younger, male,
nondiabetic, and nonobese. Patients in this group who have coronary artery disease were more apt to be
smokers. Smokers who underwent lumbar spine back surgery presented
initially more with leg pain than
back pain and disability. Their employment, insurance/uninsured, and education
status were also linked to smoking status. Fascinatingly
though, smoking status didn’t affect the
disability status one year after back surgery. (1) Altering
such risk factors work just as well for smokers and nonsmokers
luckily. Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre would help a Toronto
smoker who has Toronto back pain create a plan
to stop smoking.
SMOKING’S EFFECTS ON THE BODY
The body knows what’s good for it…and what
is not. Smoking is not. Studying 2307
smokers and non-smokers, researchers found that smoking is most
strongly associated with spine pain. Headache,
trunk pain and limb pain followed. Active smoking is linked to pain in every part of the body. The spine and head withstand
the brunt of the painful effect though. If a smoker
doesn’t like pain, you will want to think
about stop smoking! (2) Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre is with you to back
your attempt to stop smoking when you are
ready.
