Chiropractic is all about health. And when healthy food is
proven to be super-healthy, Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre wants to share the news! Be
forewarned: You’re going to want to up your strawberry and blueberry munching!
THE STUDY
A study of 93,600 women can’t be wrong!
This is a huge study. In 1989, researchers began studying
young and middle-aged women nurses aged 26-42 years. They looked at the dietary intake
of anthocyanins and other flavonoids and the risk
of myocardial infarction in these women. They have followed them for 18 years so
far! Now that’s a feat!
OUTCOME
These researchers discovered that women who ate the most
blueberries and strawberries had a 32% reduction in heart attack risk when matched
to those who only ate them once a month or less. (2,3) How easy! Eat more
strawberries and blueberries! We know our Toronto chiropractic
patients can do this.
HOW?
Anthocyanins are types of dietary antioxidant flavonoids found in the food you eat, specifically in the red, purple, or blue foods. Chocolate, grapes, red wine, blackberries, strawberries and blueberries teem with dietary flavonoids. No supplements needed to get them! Now, these flavonoids help by dilating blood vessels and by offsetting the plaque build-up in coronary arteries that may cause blockages and
eventually heart attacks. In this new study, mixed strawberry and blueberry consumption really stood out. (3) Not only is Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre here for your spine but your heart, too!
But beginning early in life to lower these possibilities is key. So, young ladies, start eating your berries! Contact Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre for your healthy Toronto chiropractic appointment, too. Maybe we can share recipes?!
