Cinnamon. It is a tasty way to help
several health issues: migraine, blood pressure,
diabetes mellitus. Chiropractic is all about health! Nutritional approaches to
various ailments boost the body’s capability
to take care of itself. The key is figuring out which ones are
best for what! Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre shares a few
of the latest papers regarding this simple
ingredient, cinnamon.
HELP FOR Toronto MIGRAINE
Cinnamon’s
anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties were put to the
test for migraine management. Migraine, the most common primary headache
type, has higher levels of inflammation. Compared to a control treatment,
cinnamon significantly decreased levels of inflammatory agents,
interleukin-6 and nitric oxide. Cinnamon also reduced
the frequency, severity and duration of migraine episodes.
Cinnamon helped migraine in this study! As far as cinnamon goes, it’s safe. (1) Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre gladly shares
research-based safe alternatives to try for health.
BLOOD PRESSURE
Blood pressure is a familiar health issue
for many Toronto folks. Cinnamon
supplementation positively and significantly affected
diastolic blood pressure and when taken for more than 8 weeks significantly
affected systolic blood pressure. (2) Several studies
have stated that cinnamon reduced blood pressure. A recent
meta-analysis of 9 randomized clinical trials reported that cinnamon
supplementation can boost blood pressure by a modest degree
overall. Significant reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure reduced
when using 2 grams or more a day of cinnamon for at least eight
weeks. (3) That’s news worth sharing with our
Toronto chiropractic patients.
DIABETES TYPE II
Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre cares for many patients
who also are dealing with diabetes type II. Diabetes
mellitus is a disease encompassing a variety of
different issues related to insulin resistance or low
production of it by the pancreas. This all brings
about lifelong damage to organs throughout a lifetime.
Management is complex. Herbs are frequently included in the
management. Cinnamon is stated as a positive choice for diabetic hypertensive patients. (4) A
survey of the use of complementary alternative medicine by diabetic patients found
that many use bitter apple, ginger, fenugreek, garlic and cinnamon. 66.1% consumed
cinnamon. (5) Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre wants to know what our
chiropractic patients are taking and if they find benefit.
