Walk. Walk. Walk. Running may have been a ‘go to’ exercise a few years ago. Speed may have been a goal at one
time. Distance may have been the target. Today, walking 90
minutes a week is a worthy target
for back pain sufferers seeking Toronto back pain relief. Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre
encourages walking along with chiropractic spinal manipulation for
optimal walking ability and back pain relief.
EXERCISE FOR Toronto BACK PAIN RELIEF
Exercise is usually recommended
to back pain patients. Muscle strengthening and aerobic exercise are well documented
as being effective for relief of low back pain.
But what about walking? Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre
urges Toronto back pain patients to not add
the word “just” before “walking”! Walking alone is an
incredibly healing activity. Walking is essential
to everyday life. Walking is one thing so many of us
underappreciate until we can not
walk or something like back pain stops us from walking like we once
did. A recent research report supports
this: Walking more than 90 minutes per
week was related to a lesser risk of self-reported
low back pain in adults who are 50 years old and over.
90 minutes is not much; regular walking for 30 minutes daily
three days a week is ideal. (1) Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre suggests
that our Toronto chiropractic patients walk.
CHIROPRACTIC ENHANCES WALKING
Visiting a licensed chiropractor increases
walking distance. A recent article discovered
that an all-inclusive non-surgical
training which involved an exercise program directed
by a chiropractor enhanced back and lower extremity fitness and
lumbar spine flexibility, decreased pain and improved
walking distance for lumbar spinal stenosis sufferers. (2) That
is important! Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre uses gentle Cox®
Technic spinal manipulation and encourages walking 3 times a week for 30 minutes each time. Having the ability to walk any distance for a half hour is essential!
