Work. We all have to do it. Everyone’s
job necessitates posture(s) that may elicit
pain at one time or another. Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre sees the pain! Many Toronto back pain and neck pain patients who come
to chiropractic bring stories of work-related pain. We are
here to help!
TREATING AND PREVENTING WORKPLACE MUSCULOSKELETAL PAIN
Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre is poised in its ability
to relieve and handle work-related musculoskeletal
pain for our Toronto chiropractic patients. Not too startling,
81.7% of office workers in one study had musculoskeletal pain
in at least one area. Back pain was the most frequently experienced
pain for 54.8%. Neck and shoulder pain followed. Curiously,
musculoskeletal system pain was found to be high in office
workers whose physical activity levels were reported as low. 58.5%
of these workers were “active” physically, 37.3% were less
active, 4.1% were very active. (1) Research shows that in-the-workplace
exercise routines were effective in addressing
musculoskeletal disorders and in reducing pain for office workers.
(2) Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre appreciates the optimism this brings
for our Toronto back and neck pain patients!
WHAT EXERCISE INTERVENTIONS WORK?
Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre manages work-related pain within the guidelines of The Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain
Management which integrates gentle spinal manipulation along
with exercise, nutrition and other advice. We appreciate researchers’
description of work-related musculoskeletal pain disorders as those painful issues
brought on by too little use
of the musculoskeletal system throughout the work day.
Exercise, education, ergonomic direction, massage are pretty usual
ways of managing and trying
to prevent pain. Most recommendations like this were for workers
to do on their own time. Recently, researchers suggested
the value of specific, individualized, resistance strengthening exercises
in the workplace to decrease pain, fatigue, and discomfort in the neck and upper extremities of workers. (3) That’s a good idea. Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre sees the benefit
of taking care of oneself at home as well as in the workplace!
